Position Title: Shift Lead & Trainer
Reports to: General Manager (Beaningful Coffee)
Status: Non-Exempt (Temporary Position up to 3 Months)
Position Summary: Provides leadership for scheduled shifts to provide a quality guest service experience. Supports sales plans and manages labor costs to increase maximize revenue during assigned shifts. Trains, mentors and coaches participant team members to develop job readiness skills.
Neighborhood House has supported families in times of transition or need from more than 50 cultural and ethnic populations, drawing people from diverse communities in Saint Paul and beyond. Train, coach and develop team in areas including: Beaningful Coffee culture, systems, policies and procedures, personal growth, operational and financial knowledge, interpersonal skills, and organizational techniques.
Interact with, direct and supervise employees on a daily basis in a fair and dignified manner.
Lead by example and promote teamwork among co-workers and employees.
Be accountable for all facets of restaurant operation during assigned shifts.
Train and model excellent customer service and sales interactions for participant staff.
Perform varied duties to ensure proper restaurant operation according to standard operating procedure.
Be “hands on” with all FOH positions to ensure smooth and efficient service.
Assure compliance with and uphold applicable policies and requirements of employment laws.
Ensure adequate prep levels based on business levels.
Perform line check to ensure quality of all items.
Assure and maintain food quality standards including consistency and presentation.
Fully understand and practice the Beaningful Coffee philosophies, Employee Handbook and employee benefits.
Complete projects as assigned in a timely manner.
Comprehend and adhere to sanitation guidelines as prescribed by federal, state, and local regulations.
Servsafe Certification preferred.
Communicate effectively in order to understand, comprehend, perform and/or follow job requirements in written and spoken direction.
Accept direction and constructive criticism from management.
Perform calmly and effectively in an extremely busy and stressful work environment.
Be able to work a variety of hours, days and shifts including weekends and increased work schedules.
Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
GENERAL RULES Must be willing and able to do the following:
Follow all uniform and appearance guidelines as befitting the image of the restaurant for the duration of the shift.
Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment outlined in the Employee Handbook.
May not resort to any type of violence, discriminatory or harassing behavior.
Ability to develop and engage team members to ensure they meet training and skill development benchmarks.
Ability lead a team for assigned shifts in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
A minimum of 12 months/one year of restaurant, retail or guest service training experience in a small venue or fast casual setting.
Computer experience and skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
