Family Center Specialist I

Position Title:                   Family Centers Specialist 1

Reports to:                         Family Centers Manager 

Status:                                  Non-Exempt

Position Summary:         Assist with the work of Family Centers and maintain up-to-date resources and materials staff need to do their work.  Help coordinate Basic Needs activities and events. Provide excellent customer service and communication across programs.  Hours for this position are typically 7:30 am - 11:30 am Monday - Friday.

Neighborhood House has supported families in times of transition or need from more than 50 cultural and ethnic populations, drawing people from diverse communities in St. Paul and beyond.  This position is an excellent opportunity to join a community-based organization with a passion and commitment to help families move from “surviving” to “thriving”.


  1. Direct Service   
  2. Enter data into client track/HMIS system
  3. Assist families with Bridging and MNSure applications
  4. Assist walk-in participants in completing intakes
  5. Conduct Crisis Day check in process, conduct assessment and assist participants as needed
  6. Collect six-month stability surveys

Indirect Service

  1. Maintain Family Centers Calendar
  2. Prepare forms and supplies for Crisis Day services
  3. Provide office and clerical support to Family Center staff
  4. Maintain up-to-date resource information tables in Family Centers
  5. Coordination
  6. Assist with assigning and supporting Family Center volunteers

Data and Evaluation

  1. Complete Client Track/HMIS database training
  2. Collect and enter all required data in accordance with agency and funding requirements
  3. Implement program evaluation tools and track progress using relevant database(s)
  4. Maintain confidentiality of program participants in accordance with data privacy laws, standards and policy
  5. Prepare or assist with preparation of program reports as instructed by funding agreements and supervisor


  1. Perform all work in accordance with Neighborhood House policies, procedures, and norms
  2. Attend and participate in departmental, agency and external meetings, trainings, committees and events as required
  3. Other duties as assigned


  1. Minimum associate's degree or two years relevant experience
  2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in English
  3. Proficiency in language(s) other than English preferred
  4. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds
  5. Working knowledge of racial equity and social justice issues relevant to the communities we serve
  6. Working knowledge of immigrant/refugee trends and needs, self-sufficiency issues and community resources
  7. Knowledge of Saint Paul neighborhoods a plus
  8. Strong time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage tasks, projects, and priorities
  9. Demonstrated ability to move projects to completion by deadlines
  10. Committed to working both independently and as part of a team
  11. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  12. Must have a driver's license, a clean driving record, and ability to drive agency vehicles
  13. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as required
