Grants Manager

Position Summary: The grants manager is an essential role in the Development & Communications team, directing the activities associated with grant preparation and submission to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward government contracts, corporate and foundation grants, and United Way funding. Grants are integral to agency resource development and constitute a significant portion of the overall budget.

Key Responsibilities:           

  • Enlarge the circle of prospective funders through research, networking, internal and external outreach to build the capacity of the agency;
  • Work closely with the program staff and finance department to develop project action plans and budgets for program implementation;
  • Collaborate with the volunteer management team and leadership giving officer to develop innovative opportunities for corporate engagement and giving;
  • Ensure that a strong process of grant preparation and submission is in place, well communicated, and regularly reviewed. Oversee these processes;
  • Facilitate quarterly meetings with program and development staff to identify and review funding opportunities and program changes; Collaborate effectively across the agency to identify needs, and to develop clear, compelling, and accurate proposal narratives that meet or exceed funder guidelines;
  • Build strong relationships with foundation and corporate program officers through personal communication, invitations, and networking opportunities;
  • Research and identify new funding prospects and cultivate current portfolio;
  • Create acknowledgement letters and other supplemental correspondence as needed related to institutional giving;
  • Maintain a calendar of deadlines for proposals, LOIs, and reporting;
  • Foster positive attitudes among staff in accomplishing office goals and objectives;

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of professional writing experience (grant writing, academic writing, etc.)
  • At least two years of nonprofit development experience; knowledge and experience of fundraising and development functions within a non-profit context
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail while remaining nimble and flexible in a complex organization
  • Creative energy
  • Outstanding listening, organ, and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate with diverse communities
  • Ability to build collegial relationships with external partners and funder representatives
  • Ability to work both within a team and independently
  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or social work
